RESIDENZE D’ARTISTA


Il progetto di residenze d'artista Vanessa Cardui, ideato da Giuseppina Pisciotta Tosini e a cura di Maria Rosa Sossai, si svolge nell'omonima azienda agricola nel comune di Collesano, in contrada Pozzetti, caratterizzata dalla presenza di un uliveto nel quale si intercalano alberi da frutta di specie antiche e autoctone quali agrumi, ulivi, gelsi, fichi, cachi, susini, noci, mandorli e una piccola vigna con antichi vitigni. In questo ecosistema, dove c'è anche una gebbia alimentata da una sorgente, sono state realizzate due piccole casette rurali che, oltre ad accogliere visitatori, ospitano anche artiste e artisti in residenza.

         Perché Vanessa Cardui?

Vanessa Cardui è una farfalla migratoria che si nutre e si riproduce nel cardo mariano. Subito dopo essere diventata farfalla, inizia il suo lungo viaggio verso il nord, sino ad arrivare nella bassa Gran Bretagna percorrendo migliaia di chilometri e portando con sè le testimonianze della sua terra d'origine. Pur essendo così piccola ed effimera, riesce a intessere una ricca rete di relazioni con le forme animate e inanimate che incontra lungo il suo cammino.

Abbiamo voluto chiamare il nostro progetto di residenze d'artista Vanessa Cardui perché, con la stessa leggerezza di questa farfalla, vorremmo propagare e condividere le idee, i pensieri, i dialoghi, le azioni che nasceranno e si svilupperanno in questo piccolo ecosistema ricco di biodiversità.
I progetti diffonderanno una cultura in grado di cogliere le semplici azioni e inazioni delle altre specie viventi, per indicare e condurre un'esistenza più semplice e felice, in sintonia con la natura.
Creeremo alleanze con musei, fondazioni, associazioni e cittadini attivi nel territorio circostante.



The Vanessa Cardui Artist’s Residency, conceived by Giuseppina Pisciotta Tosini and directed by curator Maria Rosa Sossai, is situated in Vanessa Cardui Farm in the Collesano district, in the contrada of Pozzetti. The farm is distinguished by its olive grove threaded with venerable and self-sown fruit trees including citrus, olives, mulberries, figs, strawberry trees, plums, walnuts, almonds and a small vineyard with age-old vines. In this ecosystem, where there is also a gebbia (a traditional open-air irrigation tank) fed by a natural spring, two little cottages have been built – which, as well as accommodating visitors, also host resident artists.

    Why Vanessa Cardui?
The Vanessa cardui is the migratory butterfly better known as the painted lady, which feeds on the cardus marianus thistle indigenous to the Mediterranean. Immediately after metamorphosis, the butterfly begins its long voyage north as far as the south of England, travelling thousands of kilometres and bearing testimony of its land of origin. As small and ephemeral as it is, it manages to weave a rich web of relationships with the animate and inanimate forms it encounters on its way.

We have called our artist’s residency Vanessa Cardui because we want that same lightness of touch in the sowing and sharing of the ideas, thoughts and actions that are born and bred in this small and richly biodiverse ecosystem. The residency’s projects will foster a culture sensitive to the simple actions and inaction of other living things, to demonstrate and exemplify a simpler and more contented existence in harmony with nature. We will create relationships with museums, foundations, associations and individual citizens active in the surrounding area.
